Getting Her To Lose Weight

Getting Her To Lose Weight

Have active dates

Go out together and do something active. No more ‘dinner and a movie,’ pool or bowling. Try going on a hike to see the scenic countryside, go rock climbing, biking, scuba diving, jogging or have a picnic on a row boat. The list only goes on and is only limited by your creativity. Try to pick activities that you will both enjoy and incorporate her interests so she will remain enthusiastic about your ideas. For instance, if she likes history, go on a walking tour of a historic site. This way you can get her to become more active while scoring points as a gentleman.

Hang with fit friends

As a couple, start spending more time with other couples who are physically active and generally fit. If you don’t have any friends like this, make some or join a recreational sport club that will have health-conscious couples. Spending more time with other people (especially close friends who have more influence on her behaviour) who support or encourage a healthy lifestyle will cause her to change, or re-evaluate, her own personal health views and goals. More often than not, people adopt similar views and beliefs as those who are close to them.

Make subtle comments

Make some subtle comments about some of her close girl friends who live similar lifestyles. Say things like, “oh, she’s starting to put on weight,” or “she isn’t looking to healthy/good/attractive since she put on those extra pounds.” Try not to be rude about it and try to sound genuinely concerned. You don’t want to anger your girlfriend, especially if you are commenting on a friend that she looks up to.

What to watch out for

Women do not lose weight in the same way men do and on occasion women may require the use of supplements, pills or special diets –none of which should be used without prior consent of a physician. Generally speaking, it often takes women much longer to lose weight, compared with men, and they have difficulty with retention (especially in key areas). This is mainly due to the hormone differences between men and women and often leads women to confusion, frustration and anger over why they are having a difficult time ‘shaping up’ whereas you are not. This frustration can result in a weight gain relapse or worse, such as depression, anxiety, anorexia, bulimia or otherwise. For this reason, it is essential that you remain supportive throughout her progress and are prepared for the potentially lengthy time period needed for her weight change. It is also especially important that you are observant over abnormal mood/behaviour changes as well as unhealthy eating/dieting habits. If you witness prolonged periods of abnormal behaviour consult a physician or health practitioner immediately.

Last resort

If you employ these measures correctly you should be with your slimmed down beauty in no time. But, if all else fails and she has not been persuaded by your tactful approach then it may be time to be more direct with her. Just be honest yet courteous about how you feel about her weight. It is important that you remember to mind her feelings as you tell her. If you are in a secure relationship then this is something she should be able to handle hearing from you and this will not affect the status of your relationship. If she can’t handle being told the truth, in a respectful way, about how you feel then you are not in a secure relationship and there are more important issues you need to address rather than weight gain.
