The Future Of Travel

Air Travel
Our post 9/11 existence has forced airports to take time consuming safety precautions. Passengers are longing for a more efficient approach to security and a more pleasant ride. Budding technologies such as smart cards and biometric recognition are already granting swift and easy access to airline employees in airports throughout the world. Soon passengers will be able to benefit from these same technologies. One such technology is the Bioscrypt V-Smart iClass, an access controlling system that scans your eye or fingerprint for recognition. In places like Amsterdam’s Airport Schipol, iris recognition technology has already been implemented as a way to screen passengers. This security practice has reduced wait times to about eleven seconds.
Aircrafts are also receiving an upgrade. Some of the nextgen airplanes are set to resemble 4-star hotels. Larger cabins for more personal space, added flight entertainment and even showers for those grueling fourteen-hour flights. The objective is to provide travelers with optimal convenience and luxury. Airlines, such as the German based Lufthansa, have already designed ‘business class only’ flights. These passengers are afforded total reclining seats, power ports, reading lamps and a lavishly stocked on-board bar. These on-board luxuries may become the new standard in the future.
One of the most exciting advancements of the air is the Aeroscraft – a four hundred ton hybrid airship. It is set to take its maiden flight in 2010. This huge buoyancy-assisted, blimp-like aircraft achieves lift using helium and forward thrust. It is the size of two football fields and cruises at a leisurely 174mph. This ‘cruise of the skies’ will allow for wonderful views of the terrain below with hotel-like amenities on a journey like no other.
Green Travel
One of the newest trends is environmentally friendly sightseeing on roller skates. Although this really isn’t a technological advancement it certainly is an emerging popular trend. London and Paris currently have three-hour roller skating tours that take you on a journey to all of the city highlights. Due to the popularity of these tours, additional cities throughout Europe are duplicating this phenomenon.
