St. Petersburg, Russia

Famed for its winters, St. Petersburg Russia is a winter land experience that is not nearly as cold as one would imagine. Yes, of course there is snowfall, but it is much less than the harsh winters of Moscow. During the cold months, seasonal events like the opera and ballet begin, delighting not just tourists but locals as well; as these are staples of Russian culture. Restaurants, wineries and museums are popular, as people move it indoors for the colder months. Outdoor activities such as festivals, sleigh-riding, dog-sledding, ice-fishing and polar expeditions will keep you busy as you marvel in Russia’s snow-covered countryside. Come during the holidays if you can because Russians celebrate two Christmases and New Years, allowing for twice as much holiday cheer.

Norway winter safaris

Animal lovers get ready. Africa is no longer the only place to go on safari. Norway winter safaris run throughout the country where you can see killer whales, king crab, musk oxen, and snow seals among other snow faring critters in their natural habitats. Begin a once in a lifetime exploration with a tour group and rove the white terrain in search of some of the Northern Hemisphere’s most ‘exotic’ wildlife. Not only will you come face to face with the animals but you will also be front and center to the beautiful landscape of the Scandinavian terrain.

Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Lastly, if all you want to do is cozy up by a fire, read a good book and stroll through village streets on your winter holiday then look no further than Cape Cod, Massachusetts, New England’s coziest northeastern winter destination. Surrounded by the Cape’s idyllic winter scenery, this historic American region on the coast allows visitors to take in the quintessential American winter experience. Classical shops, cafes and museums are in no short supply here to keep visitors busy. Hospitable inns and cottages serve up warmth, fresh baked cookies and warm apple cider. No matter where you come from you are sure to feel at home.

With the Northern Hemisphere offering so many exciting and different winter locales it only makes sense to take it all in. The winter snows of the north seem to cover the whole world in a peaceful blanket of white. So take advantage of the beauty of the winter months and the endless array of winter activities.
